Description
This is one piece of Macassar Ebony from top to bottom. I turned down the Macassar at the top to 3/8″ then slid a piece of Stabilized Spalted Hackberry over it and turned it as normal. The Hackberry makes it more beautiful and unique since no two pieces are the same. The Macassar is my best selling striker and since it is one piece from top to bottom it makes the striker very strong. These are VERY time consuming to make so I usually only make one batch per year. Macassar Ebony is an exotic wood with heartwood that is reported to be strong, very heavy, and very hard. It is from Indonesia and has a Janka Hardness rating of 3220. This is my best selling striker, it more than doubles the number sold of any other wood type I offer. Macassar is becoming harder to come by and therefore more expensive. I expect this wood to eventually be placed on the list of woods banned from import. I already can’t ship it to Canada. YOU ARE BUYING THE ACTUAL STRIKER IN THE PICTURES. UPDATE: Macassar Ebony was placed on the CITES Appendix II list which places restrictions on import and export, the price will rise and it will become harder and harder to find. The price I have to pay for blanks has more than doubled since it was restricted. Cannot ship out of the United States due to being an Ebony, which is internationally restricted to sell across a border.
